As young adults (between 18 and 23) step into the world of adulthood, they face many choices and experiences. This post offers important advice to help them lay a strong foundation for success.
From social connections to mental well-being, spirituality and physical health, the four pieces of advice below are to help this age bracket manoeuvre through these crucial years and build strong foundations to set themselves up for a positive and successful future.
Socially
Many social circles at this age revolve around partying, alcohol and casual sex. While these experiences may seem enticing, they often lead to superficial connections and wasted energy. I speak from experience!
Instead, my advice to these young adults would be to focus on cultivating meaningful relationships based on shared interests and values, while also surrounding themselves with positive influences and winners who uplift and inspire them to be their best selves.
In my opinion, cultivating authentic connections will not only enrich their lives but also lay the groundwork for lasting friendships that withstand the test of time.
That doesn't mean to say that friendships made during this time won’t last - I still speak to many of my mates from back in my party years - but bonds made over these superficial experiences might not provide profoundness and/or deeper meaning.
Mentally
For young adults reading this, whether you’re subscribed to Birth of Clarity or have been shared this article by a friend, my advice would be to prioritise your mental health and well-being by investing time in self-discovery and personal growth.
Again, speaking from experience, try and avoid the trappings of the party lifestyle, which offers little fulfilment and drains your mental energy. Also, while it sounds like I am preaching, I would also implore you to avoid getting stuck in a constant cycle of self-help content consumption without action.
Embrace activities that nurture your mind, such as mindfulness and meditation, and pursue hobbies that bring you joy and fulfilment.
This is a crucial time, make sure you’re having fun in the moment but have an eye on building practices that will serve you well for the future. Don’t go down the path I did where I drank away my youth!
Spiritually
Spirituality goes beyond religious beliefs; it encompasses finding inner peace and harmony within yourself. Inner peace is something worth striving for. Trust me.
Amid life's hustle and bustle, carve out moments of stillness and introspection. Resist the temptations of excessive partying and instant gratification, and instead, focus on activities that nourish your soul, such as meditation, spending time in nature, and cultivating gratitude.
Disconnect from technology to cultivate a deeper sense of spirituality and inner calm.
Tap into your inner wisdom and nurture a sense of interconnectedness to foster resilience and serenity in the face of adversity. Nurture your spiritual well-being, and you'll find solace and guidance on your life's journey.
Physically
Your body is your temple and taking care of it is essential for your overall well-being.
Adopt healthy habits early on, including regular exercise, nutritious eating, and adequate rest. Strengthen the connection between your body and mind by prioritising physical fitness, which not only boosts your physical health but also enhances mental clarity and resilience.
Engage in activities that promote strength, flexibility, and vitality, allowing you to fully embrace life's adventures. By honouring the mind-body connection, you lay the foundation for a vibrant and fulfilling future.
Invest in your physical health today, and you'll reap the rewards for years to come.

Conclusion
As you navigate young adulthood, remember that your choices shape your future. Focus on positivity, self-awareness, and healthy habits in social, mental, spiritual, and physical aspects. Embrace the journey with open arms and prioritise personal growth for a fulfilling and joyful future.
Things to do/remember
Socially
Expand social circles: Look for opportunities to meet new people who share your interests and values. Join clubs, volunteer organisations, or sports teams to connect with like-minded individuals.
Quality over quantity: It's not about the number of friends you have but the quality of those friendships. Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you, rather than those who bring you down.
Communication skills: Practice effective communication to build stronger relationships. Listen actively, express yourself clearly, and show empathy towards others.
Mentally
Self-reflection: Take time to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and goals. Journalling or meditation can help you gain clarity and insight into yourself.
Set boundaries: Learn to set boundaries with others to protect your mental health. Saying no to activities or people that drain your energy is okay.
Seek help: Don't hesitate to seek professional help if you're struggling with your mental health. Therapists, counsellors, and support groups can provide valuable support and guidance.
Spiritually
Mindfulness practices: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine to cultivate awareness and presence. This could include mindful breathing, walking, or eating.
Gratitude practice: Cultivate an attitude of gratitude by acknowledging the blessings in your life. Keep a gratitude journal or take a moment each day to reflect on what you're thankful for.
Connect with nature: Spend time outdoors and connect with the natural world. Whether it's going for a hike, sitting by the ocean, or watching a sunset, nature can provide a sense of peace and awe.
Physically
Regular exercise: Find activities that you enjoy and make exercise a regular part of your routine. This could be going for a walk, practising yoga, or playing a sport.
Healthy eating habits: Fuel your body with nutritious foods that nourish and energise you. Aim for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.
Quality sleep: Prioritise sleep and establish a bedtime routine that promotes restful sleep. Create a relaxing environment free of screens and distractions to ensure quality rest.

Taking these lessons to heart! Mind-body-social connection 💚
Some great advice here I wish I would have had during my teens and early twenties. The points you make here about social circles really resonates. It’s so critical to have people around you that motivate you to be the best version of yourself. The cliché of being the average of the five people you spend the most time with was certainly true when I was younger (and not in positive ways). In terms of self-reflection, I agree that journaling is a rewarding and helpful practice. Not only does it help you discover how you feel about yourself and the world around you, all those pages become great data for identifying patterns and habits you want to change or continue. Thanks again for the post! 🙏🏻
