Hey,
My son returned to school today after missing the last three days due to having a bad cough.
I was honestly sad to drop him off.
I’ve really enjoyed looking after him and it was nice to spend some quality time with him despite him being ill.
I love being a father and I’m grateful to be TRULY present in his life - something I would’ve never been if I were still drinking.
I definitely still would have been there for him, as he is the most important thing in my life, but the control alcohol had over me by the time he was born cannot be underestimated.
That’s why I’m so glad I was able to kick the destructive habit.
Not drinking anymore has allowed me to be present & in the moment with my son on more occasions than if I were under the influence of booze or drugs.
I’m still not perfect. I allow too many external distractions to get in the way of our precious time but that is something I’m aware of and working on.
But I’ve given myself the gift of sobriety for a reason, and aside from it being healthy for me, it is also especially beneficial for my son.
He has his Dad now.
Are you a Dad?
Are you drinking too much?
Maybe you’re smoking too much weed or playing too many video games?
Don’t beat yourself up!
As I said, I’ve been there.
Thankfully, I was able to quit my destructive habit well before he was at an age where he would have really noticed.
And you can too.
Over the next few months, I will be releasing more content aim at helping Dads get sober and providing support for those Dads who are already on their sobriety journey.
Dads, we owe it to our kids to be truly present in their lives.
In some circumstances, your situation may dictate how often you see your kids but when you do, you want to be at your best.
You don’t want to be a drunken mess or hungover again.
If you’re with your kids all the time, what kind of example are you setting for them if they forever see you knocking back beers and becoming belligerent.
They deserve better.
You deserve better.
Together, we can get you on the right track.
Together, we can keep you on the right track.
You have the power to overcome your addictions and to overcome your destructive habits.
You have the power to overcome your inner demons and to overcome your unhealthy obsessions.
